PTA/PTSA/PTO Council

Message from the President

It is hard to believe but I am saying, “Welcome to another exciting school year!” It seems like it was just yesterday we were saying “Have a great summer” to our friends, parents, teachers, staff members, administrators, and colleagues. Where did the time go? I hope that you had time to recharge your batteries and gear up for the 2012-13 school year. I believe that by working together within our school’s parent-teacher groups and the District 123 Council, we will make this a very successful year for everyone.

What distinguishes our parent-teacher groups from others is our clear recognition of the importance of
parents and teachers working cooperatively to improve the lives of children. These groups spend many
hours planning educational, entertaining, and just plain fun events for your children throughout the school
year. It is very important that you play an active role in your child’s educational experience and this
includes these “extra” activities/events hosted by your local parent-teacher organizations. We need YOU!
No matter how much time you can give to a given committee, event, and/or fundraiser, YOU will make a
difference in the life of a child.

Additionally, without the financial support of parents, teachers, administrators, staff, and community
members, the PTA/PTO/PTSA cannot bring these worthwhile programs to our schools. Your membership
in your local parent-teacher group is essential to our continued support and survival. In today’s society,
it takes financial resources to bring the best programs to our children in District 123. Along with
membership, your continued support of fundraisers and other activities benefit all and is just one more
way to show your support for our children.

The objectives of the Illinois PTA, in common with the purposes of National PTA are:

  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship.
  • To raise the standards of home life.
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
  • To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

This calendar is an invaluable resource to keep you informed about both local parent-teacher group
activities and the District 123 Council. Meeting dates are listed for all groups and I encourage you to
attend as many of these as possible -- all are open to everyone, however, to vote on any matters, you
must be a registered and current member of your local organization. These meetings are a wonderful
way to keep up-to-date on both PTA/PTO/PTSA activities and school-related topics.

Involvement is the key to our continued success. Through your membership, creative ideas, volunteered
time, continued efforts towards common goals, teamwork, and financial support to your local PTA/PTO/
PTSA, we will see all of our children flourish this school year. Have a great year and I hope to meet each
and every one of you at an upcoming event!

Jean Attig
