Summer School Registration begins April 5, 2013

2013 Summer School Information

Oak Lawn Hometown School District 123 offers summer school programming for students in grades K – 8. This program is available to any public, private or parochial student who is a legal resident of District 123. The programs are designed to offer enrichment opportunities, explore interest-based content, and provide on-going academic supports.

Summer School is offered Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. for a period of 4 weeks.

Session 1 – July 8th – July 18th
Session 2 – July 22nd – August 1st

This year we are offering the following programs:

ULTIMATE CREATIVE DRAMA:
Session 2 Only– We will emphasize interpretive readings, poetry, short skits and small plays.

ULTIMATE BASKETBALL: NBA here we come! Students will learn the fundamentals of basketball, including ball handling, passing, shooting, and offensive and defensive positioning. Offered Session 1 & Session 2

ULTIMATE BAND: Technology will be incorporated through the use of the Smartmusic software and digital recorders Garageband and Audacity.
Session 1 – Ultimate Concert Band (for current concert band members)
Session 2 – Ultimate Beginning Band (for current 5th grade band members)

SPECIAL EDUCATION EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR: This program is designed to ensure that students maintain skills and/or behaviors learned during the school year.

The special education teachers will refer students for summer school based on recommendations from the IEP.

SUMMER LITERACY: This intensive summer school literacy program will utilize the Stephanie Harvey Comprehension Toolkit and 6 Traits of Writing (1-5) and Read 180 (6-8) programs to form a robust instructional experience designed to meet the needs of struggling readers.
