A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF EDUCATION.  

The closed session convened at 6:30 p.m. Open session was held in the Training Center and called to order at 7:35 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

 

Special Presentation - Ms. Andrea Anderson, McGugan Asst. Principal - ISAT test results

Ms. Anderson presented a longtitudinal analysis of ISAT test results over the last four years.

 

Special Presentation - Dr. Paziotopoulos & Mrs. McCord

Review District Summary Data of State Report Card

Dr. Paziotopoulos reviewed the State Report Card summar report and extended plaudits to the staff.

THE BOARD HEARD FROM THE ADMINISTRATION REGARDING:

• Buildings and Grounds report
• Library Grant
• 2002 Tax Levy - Mr. Kolb presented a proposed tax levy of $17,571,031
• A special board meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, 2002 to canvass referendum election results
• Building Staffing lists
• TPI Program Design/Staffing Issues - due to a significant increase in needs, there will be a TPI program in all five elementary schools next year (2003-04)
• Institute/Inservice update
• Initial Draft of 2003-2004 School Calendar
• Monday Math Minutes
• McGugan "Take Time to Read" Parent Inservice
• Challenger "Patch" Competition Finalist - Michael Zero
• Science Center Open House flyer and survey form
• Technology survey form
• ISBE request for email addressess for board members
• ISAT/State Report Cards
Dr. Paziotopoulos commented favorably about the Science Center, specifically that he believed it impacted positively on the ISAT science test scores.
• Teacher Tuition Reimbursement
The surge in teachers obtaining their master's degrees in District 123 continues. Dr. Paziotopoulos reported that there were 46 teachers that applied for tuition reimbursement via the district-sponsored cohort MA programs and 56 teachers that applied for tuition reimbursement via the regular $18,000 fund, for a total of 102 applicants.
• Referendum update - November 5, 2002 election
Dr. Paziotopoulos expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all the board members and all the referendum volunteers, especially to Mr. Keane for his initiative and leadership in the campaign.

THE BOARD TOOK THE FOLLOWING ACTION:

• Approved the minutes of September 23, 2002
• Approved the closed session minutes of September 23, 2002
• Approved resignation of:
Ciciora, Irene - Aux. Teacher for collaboration at Covington, Hannum, and Hometown
Ganta, Christine - Accounts Payable/Payroll Assistant at District Office
• Approved the employment of educational support personnel, 2002-2003:
Hoban, Katie - Instructional Assistant in the 5th grade at Kolmar School
Stachacz, Scott - Maintenance at District Office
• Adopted School Board Policies
#500.13 Limitations on Accepting Gifts
#705.05 Residency of Students
• Approved the 2003 School Library Per Capita Grant Application for Oak Lawn-Hometown District 123
• Approved the list of bills as presented, the Fund Reconciliation Report, the summary financial reports, and the payroll in the amount of $2,548,255.43.
The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2002 at the Administration Center, 4201 West 93rd Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois.
