A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF
EDUCATION.
The closed session convened at 6:30 p.m. Open
session was held in the Training Center and called to order at 7:35
p.m.
The Pledge of Allegiance was said.
Special Presentation - Open District
Denise Woloszyn, Cathy Baumann and Sandy Bogusevic
presented an overview of Open District, a management system that
helps manage and access student information throughout the school
district.
THE BOARD HEARD FROM THE
ADMINISTRATION REGARDING:
- Building and Grounds Report
- The Village of Oak Lawn planted 10 trees by
McGugan Junior High School.
- Tax Levy $17,571,031 - December 16 will
be the levy hearing.
- Dr. Paziotopoulos explained that Mr. Kolb was
hospitalized; we were fortunate to have Mr. Ed O'Malley come out
of retirement to assist us.
- TPI Program Design/Staffing
Update
- Next school year, the plan will be to move
students back to their home schools.
- Language Instruction Programs for
Limited English Proficient Students
- (LIPLEPS) Funding Opportunity
- November 5th Institute/Inservice

- In the future, Dist. 218 is considering
establishing a set spring break time on their calendar that does
not move with the Easter holiday.

- Dr. Paziotopoulos thanked everyone for their
strong support of the November 5, 2002 referendums; hopefully in
April the momentum will continue for passage of the tax rate
referendum.

- The board conducted the first reading of
policy #720.10 Psychotropic or Psychostimulant
Medication.

THE BOARD TOOK THE FOLLOWING
ACTION:
- Approved the minutes of October 28 and
November 12, 2002
- Approved the employment of educational
support personnel, 2002-2003
- Al-Arab, Intesar - Teacher Assistant in the
TPI program at Hannum and McGugan
- Wieneke, Erin - Instructional Assistant in the
TPI program at Hannum and McG
- Lathus, Debra - Accounts Payable/Payroll
Assistant - District Office
- Approved the employment of interim
administrative personnel -
- Business Office - Edward O'Malley
- Approved appointment of the
Superintendent's administrative assistant, Ursula,
- as the Board Secretary's designee for purposes
of receiving nomination petitions and other documents required of
candidates for the board election on April 1, 2003
- Approved the list of bills as
presented, the Fund Reconciliation Report, the summary financial
reports, and the payroll in the amount of $
1,658,372.01
- Approved the sale of $25 million
general obligation bonds (approved by the voters at the November 5
referendum election) as soon as possible, as per
resolution.
The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Education
will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2002 at the
Administration Center, 4201 West 93rd Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois.
