A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF EDUCATION
The closed session convened at 7:00 p.m. Open
session was held in the Training Center and called to order at 7:30
p.m.
The Pledge of Allegiance was said.
Special Presentation - Financial Profile of the
District
End of Year Fund Balances - Edward
O'Malley
2002 Tax Levy - Bob Kolb outlined the 2002 Tax
Levy.
A Public Hearing of the 2002 Tax Levy was
conducted.
THE BOARD HEARD FROM THE
ADMINISTRATION REGARDING:
- Building and Grounds Report
- Personnel update
- EDC Summary
- Guided Reading
- Summer School - 2003
- Two FOI requests regarding 1)
transportation & 2) student information
- The Oak Lawn Story - The Educational
Foundation is offering a limited-edition book that chronicles the
history of the Village of Oak Lawn. Books can be purchased at all
#123 schools and District Office for $33.95
- Annual United Way/Educational
Foundation appeal raised $2,167 for United Way and $1,862 for the
Foundation
- EFAB resoultion in support of increased
state funding for education
- Referendum - Dr. Paziotopoulos
discussed a position paper entitled, "Consequences of a Failed
Referendum," and outlined a tentative plan to reduce the buget by
$2.2 million if the tax rate referendum fails on April 1, 2003.
- The board conducted the second reading of
policy #720.10 Psychotropic or Psychostimulant Medication and a
first reading of policy #720.14 Administering Medication to
Students.
THE BOARD TOOK THE FOLLOWING
ACTION:
- Approved the minutes of November 25,
2002
- Approved the closed session minutes of
October 28 and November 25, 2002
- Approved the employment of educational
support personnel, 2002-2003
- Martinek, Jennifer - Teacher Assistant in the
TPI Program at Hannum
- Approved personal leave, D. Ivers,
effective 2/3/03 thru the remaining 2002-2003 school
year
- Approved school board policies

- Approved EFAB resolution
- Adopted the 2002 Certificate of Tax
Levy in the amount of $17,571,031

Fire Prevention and Safety Purposes
- Approved Certificate of Compliance with
the Truth in Taxation Act
- Adopted Resolution Allocating Tax Levy
to Individual Funds of the District-Property Tax Extension
Limitation Law
- Approved request for use of classrooms
for Oak Lawn Park District for Summer Day Camp 2003
- Approved the list of bills as
presented, the Fund Reconciliation Report, the summary financial
reports, and the payroll in the amount of $ 1,045,562.61
- The meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Education
will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2003* at the
Administration Center, 4201 West 93rd Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois.
