A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF EDUCATION. 

The closed session convened at 7:00 p.m. Open session was held in the Training Center and called to order at 7:40 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

Special Presentations - ISAT test results

Ms. Andrea Anderson, McGugan Principal

Ms. Anderson presented a longitudinal analysis of ISAT test results. ISAT measures the extent to which students are meeting the Illinois Learning Standards (ILS).

Construction Update

Andrew McCall, Concept 3 Architects

On October 9th and 16th, bids were opened for the new Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School ... a total of 68 contractors submitted bids. Mr. McCall reviewed the 10 bid packages and presented his recommendations. He was pleased to announce that the 148,380 square foot building will be built at the cost of $114 per square foot -- considered by most in the industry as a fantastic price.

• Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - Kolmar Avenue School's new gymnasium /auditorium 12/1/03 at 7:00 p.m. in its new facility
• Public School Bilingual Census/TPI Program Development
• Ellis Computer Software (TPI)
• French Club Trip 2004 - preliminary information will be forthcoming soon
• Teacher Tuition Reimbursement
- 31 teachers in the cohort program for a total of 371 sem. hours
- 53 teachers in the regular T.R. fund for a total of 504 sem. hours
• ISAT
• State Report Cards - Review of District Summary Data was postponed.
ISBE reported that the contractor has been experiencing technical difficulties 

THE BOARD TOOK THE FOLLOWING ACTION:

• Approved the minutes of September 22, 2003
• Approved the closed session minutes of September 22, 2003
• Approved the employment of the following certified staff, 2003-04
Becker, Jody - Reclassified as 1st Grade Teacher at Covington
Fajman, Elizabeth - Reclassified as 2nd Grade Teacher at Hometown
Certified Auxiliary Teacher
Knott, Courtney - for collaboration at Hannum, Hometown, and Sward Schools
• Approved the employment of the following educational support personnel, 03-04
Barham, Lane - Instructional Assistant in the TPI program at Hometown & Sward
Barry, Debra - Technology Assistant at McGugan Junior High
Cusack, Maryann - Instructional Assistant in the sp ed resource program at Hannum
• Approved the resignation of Erica Bell, Instructional Assistant at Hometown
• Approved the bid packages for the new Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School

• Approved the building permit (sprinkler system) for the new Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School
• Approved the sprinkler system for the new Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School
• Approved the 2004 School Library Per Capita Grant Application for Oak Lawn-Hometown District 123
• Adopted the preliminary 2003 tax levy
• Approved the list of bills as presented, the Fund Reconciliation Report, the summary financial reports, and the payroll in the amount of $3,156,262.17

The meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, November 24, 2003, at the Administration Center, 4201 West 93rd Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois.
