A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The closed session convened at 7:15 p.m. Open session was held in the Training Center and called to order at 7:45 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

Special Presentations - "What is Assistive Technology?"

Jeanne Weiss

Jeanne Weiss explained that Assistive Technology includes any service/device that directly assists a child with a learning disability. She displayed numerous augmentative communication devices, computer hardware/software, aids for vision and hearing impairments, etc.

"A Mentoring Program That Works!"

Martha Sydanmaa, Marla Campas

Martha Sydanmaa and Marla Campas reviewed the District 123 Mentoring program. They explained the structure of the program, the selection of mentors, the matching of mentors with the mentorees, goals of the program, etc. (Kathy Stangel assisted with both PowerPoint presentations.)

" Approved employment of educational support personnel, 2003-04 Mulvihill, Corene - EC Instructional Assistant at Kolmar effective 2/13/04
Sadowski, Julia - 4th Grade Instructional Assistant at Hometown effective 2/9/04
" Approved resignation of Erin Mahoney, Sp. Ed. Teacher at McGugan, who has been on leave
" Authorized the Board President and the Superintendent to execute the sale of Construction Bonds when the market conditions are most favorable
" Approved the sale of "not to exceed" $7,283,894.50 General Obligation Capital Appreciation School Bonds, Series 2004
" Approved the purchase of a 2004 Ford Explorer XLS 4 door, passenger utility 4 x 4 under the Illinois Department of Central Management Services Joint Purchasing Agreement
" Approved the list of bills as presented, the Fund Reconciliation Report, the summary financial reports, and the payroll in the amount of $1,984,848

The meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
