A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The closed session convened at 6:45 p.m. Open session was held in the Training Center and called to order at 7:40 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

Student Recognition - Oak Lawn Rotary Club Contest

Special Presentation - Middle School Program Development Update

Andrea Anderson & Paul Enderle

Ms. Andrea Anderson and Mr. Paul Enderle presented the first in a series of informational sessions regarding the development and transitional activities related to the new middle school. The direction and shape of the junior high will begin to be transformed in the 2004-2005 school year. Plans include the reconfiguration of McGugan's building design (west wing = 7th grade, east wing = 8th grade); daily student schedule and procedural changes, i.e., homerooms will be eliminated, classroom "pass time" will be reduced, lunch time will be revised to include advisory time, etc. In addition, there will be a shift to interdisciplinary teacher teams to promote complimentary knowledge, consistency and improved communication.

THE BOARD TOOK THE FOLLOWING ACTION:

• Approved the minutes of February 23, 2004
• Approved the closed session minutes of February 23, 2004
• Approved the following resignations, effective immediately:
Jennifer Fitzgerald, LA/Block teacher at McGugan
Juarez Francisco, teacher aide at Hometown
Bessie Katsivalis, library aide/lunchroom supervisor at Kolmar
Approved the following resignations at the conclusion of the 03-04 school year:
Jody Becker, 1st grade teacher at Covington
Christine Cupicciotti, former 1st grade teacher at Sward
Susanne Stevenson, Sp Ed teacher at McGugan
• Adopted a resolution authorizing notice of non-renewal of employment for teachers (first, second, or third year probationary teachers)
• Adopted a resolution honorably dismissing educational support personnel
• Adopted the 2004-2005 school calendar
• Approved the Oak Lawn Baseball lease for use of fields
• Approved the change order for middle school excavation and concrete
• Approved the list of bills as presented, the Fund Reconciliation Report, the summary financial reports, and the payroll in the amount of $2,226,268.93
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, April 26, 2004, at the Administration Center, 4201 West 93rd Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois.
