A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The closed session convened at 6:30 p.m. Open session was
held in the Training Center and called to order at 7:35 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance
was said.
Special Presentations -
“Parent Reading Night”
Presenters: Candace Hines, Reading Specialist, Hometown School
Linda Jaques, Principal, Hometown School
An overview of the Hometown Parent Reading Night was presented.
The purpose of the event was to encourage reading. Families were offered informational
packets, reading sessions of their choosing, baby sitting, pizza and a fun time.
“Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School Program Development
Update”
Presenters: Paul Enderle, Assistant Principal, McGugan Jr. High Andrea Anderson,
Principal, McGugan Jr. High
Commentaries regarding curriculum designs for grades 6, 7, and
8 were presented for the 36-week 2005-2006 school year; program concepts were
outlined; academic “Core” and “Encore” designations
were explained; and a daily schedule was provided. It was noted that the 6th
grade will be housed on the third floor of the academic wing in the new middle
school building, the 7th grade on the second floor, and the 8th grade on the
first floor.
THE BOARD HEARD FROM THE ADMINISTRATION REGARDING:
- Buildings and Grounds Report
- Andrew McCall, school architect, gave a construction update
report
- Fun Fair Recap - February 26, 2005 - Kudos to all volunteers
- Employment recommendation -- Assistant Superintendent -- Susan
Haddick was in the audience and was introduced
- Staffing/vacancy update
- Recommended school calendar for 2005-2006
- Kindergarten program/enrollment update
- Procedures for mailing district information to parents of
students with special needs
- Summer school update (will be housed primarily at Hannum School)
- Teacher Lane Changes
THE BOARD TOOK THE FOLLOWING ACTION:
- Approved the minutes of January 25, 2005
- Approved the closed session minutes of January 25, 2005
- Approved employment of certified personnel, 04-05
Melissa Franzese, auxiliary teacher at Hometown School
- Approved employment of certified personnel, 05-06
Susan Haddick, Assistant Superintendent
Bridget Duffy, Speech Pathologist at Hometown School
Beth Elliott, Social Worker at OLH Middle School
- Approved employment of educational support personnel, 04-05
Mary Casey, teacher aide (.50) at Kolmar School
- Approved the resignation of Miriam Lopez, aide at Hometown
School
- Adopted a resolution authorizing notice of non-renewal of
employment (first, second, or third year probationary teachers)
- Adopted a resolution honorably dismissing educational support
personnel
- Approved Certification of Need For Fire Prevention and Safety
Funds Request for Authorization for A.E.R.O. Special Education Cooperative
Center
- Approved bid meeting specifications for a Food Service Delivery
Truck from Hawkinson Ford in the amount of $39,834
- Approved Serious Safety Hazard findings for the new Oak Lawn-Hometown
Middle School and Kolmar School for the 05-06 school year
- Approved bid meeting specifications for the Hometown School
roof replacement
- Approved bid meeting specifications for the demolition of Gasteyer
School
- Approved Resolution and Application for Building Permits for
the demolition of Gasteyer School and the reroofing of Hometown School
- Approved Oak Lawn Baseball lease
- Approved lease with Oak Lawn Montessori School for a portion
of McGugan School
- Approved the list of bills as presented, the Fund Reconciliation
Report, the summary financial reports, and the payroll in the amount of $3,119,346.98
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, March
21, 2005, at the Administration Center, 4201 West 93rd Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois.
