A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The closed session convened at 6:45 p.m. Open session was held in the Training Center and called to order at 7:45 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said.
Special Presentations -
“Physical Education/Health K-5 Program Design for 2005-2006”
Presenters: Eric Hofer, Covington School
Phyllis Eklin, Sward School
The Physical Education program will move from emphasizing sports-related skills to teaching lifelong fitness strategies/activities. Sports and Fitness will be taught four days a week and Health one day a week.
“Read 180” (A reading program intervention for students in Grades 3-8)
Presenters: Leanne DeHaan Lyons, Director of Student Services
Valerie Coffman & Noelle Morris, Scholastic Education Group
An overview of the “Read 180” software was presented. The diagnostic system collects data based on individual student responses and adjusts instruction to meet the needs of each student. Funding will come from the FY ‘06 IDEA grant.

- District Choral Festival March 22, 2005, 7:30 p.m. at Covington School
- AERO’s request for classrooms for the 2005-06 school year
- Transportation software from Versatrans Solutions (cost of software will be reimbursed to District 123 by the State via the Transportation Claim)
THE BOARD TOOK THE FOLLOWING ACTION:
- Approved the minutes of February 28, 2005
- Approved the closed session minutes of February 28, 2005
- Approved employment of certified personnel, 2005-06

Kathleen Walsh Gorman, Assistant Principal, OLH Middle School
- Approved purchase of Routing and Planning transportation software from Versatrans Solutions, Inc. in the amount of $23,375
- Approved bid (base and alternate) meeting specifications for Sward School addition in the amount of $1,080,683
- Approved bid (base and alternates) meeting specifications for Hometown School addition in the amount of $1,405,612
- Approved French Club trip to Quebec, Canada, March, 2005
- Approved the list of bills as presented, the Fund Reconciliation Report, the summary financial reports, and the payroll in the amount of $2,727,728.36
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, April 25, 2005, at the Administration Center, 4201 West 93rd Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois.
