A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Special Presentations -
Brandt Remodeling
Andrew McCall, Concept 3 architect, presented a proposed remodeling design of Brandt School for the Board's consideration. Since Penny Lane has vacated a portion of Brandt, it was recommended that the Brandt reconstruction project be designed over a longer period of time than the ten week “window” that has been utilized during previous school reconstruction projects. The plan calls for two or three phases, beginning with asbestos removal in the east wing during the winter break and contractors beginning reconstruction work in January or February, 2006. Brandt School would be the only remodeling project for 2006.
Mr. McCall noted that the plan includes an option to build a new gymnasium on the east end of Brandt and a bus turn around. Mrs. McCord clarified that the gymnasium would only be considered if future student population growth would require such an addition. Therefore, this option will not be included in the bid specifications for this reconstruction project.
Kolmar School Improvement Plan
Mrs. Anna Schultz, principal of Kolmar School, started her presentation with an iMovie featuring the Kolmar kindergarten classes. She discussed the Kolmar School Improvement Plan for 2005-2006, including demographics, mobility rate, data analysis, goals, etc. She also highlighted the results of two surveys that she had taken - for parents and staff - and the subsequent action plans in response to them..
