A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The meeting was held at the Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School (OLHMS) Cafetorium and called to order at 7:30 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said.
Special Presentations -
Ambassadors for Excellence
The Covington School Chorus and their director, Nicky Glikis, were recognized for their many years of excellent musical performances at the annual Village of Oak Lawn “Christmas on the Green” celebrations the day after Thanksgiving. An iMovie of the chorus was shown.
Hannum School Improvement Plan
Mary Ann Grice, principal of Hannum School, outlined the Hannum School Improvement Plan for 2005-2006, including demographics, mobility rates, data analysis, ISAT trends, strengths, focus areas, goals, etc.
Read 180
Candace Hines, teacher at Hometown, presented an iMovie about the Read 180 Program. Read 180 is an interactive reading program that meets the needs of students whose reading falls below proficient levels. The 90-minute instructional model begins and ends with whole group instruction and in between, students break into three, 20-minute small group rotations.

Of special note: Board member Craig Lanigan, previously in the army reserves, has been called to active duty, effective December 4, 2005. The board wished him well during his military tour of duty and a safe and speedy return to his board duties.
THE BOARD TOOK THE FOLLOWING ACTION:
- Approved the minutes of October 24, 2005
- Approved the closed session minutes of October 24, 2005
- Approved the resignations of Kristy Trumblay, Instructional Assistant at Kolmar, and Mary K. Vargas, 6th grade Teacher at OLHMS
- Approved the Brandt asbestos removal bid from Mamax, Inc. in the amount of $169,000
- Approved the Brandt remodeling design #3 with cost estimates for asbestos abatement, window replacement, and life safety and renovation work in the amount $4,835,618
- Approved the list of bills as presented, the Fund Reconciliation Report, the summary financial reports, and the payroll in the amount of $3,579,245.32
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
