A SYNOPSIS OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The closed session convened at 7:00 p.m. The open meeting was held at the Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School (OLHMS) Cafetorium and called to order at 7:35 p.m.
The Pledge of Allegiance was said.
THE BOARD HEARD FROM THE ADMINISTRATION REGARDING:
- Buildings and Grounds report
- Brandt construction is going strong
- American School Board Journal 2006, Learning By Design, featured our new Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School
- Revised food service contract extension with Arbor
- Alliance Legislative Reports - the controversial extension/expansion of the "7% assessment cap" as it relates to property tax bills
- Summer curriculum work
- Mathematics Curriculum Document - June 12-15
- Literacy Framework Document - June 26-29
- Volume 1, Issue 1, of the new District 123 newsletter titled In Focus
- 1st Place, Band-o-Rama
- 1st Place, Declamation Team

THE BOARD TOOK THE FOLLOWING ACTION:
- Approved the minutes of March 21, 2006
- Approved the closed session minutes of March 21, 2006
- Adopted a resolution authorizing notice of non-renewal of employment (library aides and/or copy clerks)
- Approved the amended 2005-2006 school calendar
- Adopted the Harcourt Trophies reading series for grades 2-5 in the amount of $210,988.80
- Approved bid meeting specifications for instructional supplies - paper - from Unisource in the amount of $33,410.16
- Approved bid meeting specifications for school and office supplies from Prestige Office Products in the amount of $5,718.67
- Approved extension of Food Service contract with Arbor Management, Inc. for the 2006-2007 school year at the projected invoice amount of $548,464
- Approved the list of bills as presented, the Fund Reconciliation Report, the summary financial reports, and the payroll in the amount of $2,378,844.92
Election of Board Officers
Tom Boyle was nominated and elected President of the Board of Education, Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 for a one year term.
Michael Keane was nominated and elected Vice President of the Board of Education, for a one year term.
Alan Stepp was nominated and elected Secretary of the Board of Education, for a one year term.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, May 22, 2006, at the Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School, 5345 W. 99th Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois.
