Educational Foundation
The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation
that was established in 1991
through the good efforts of the School
District and dedicated friends in the
community. Its purpose is to attract private
monies to fund and advance special
innovative educational
projects/programs that would not normally
be supported by tax dollars. A
community Board of Trustees governs
the Foundation’s activities.
Since its inception, over $200,000
has been contributed to the
Educational Foundation. Funding for
the foundation has been achieved
through private and corporate donations,
as well as through annual
fundraising events including dinner
dances, an annual golf outing, and family
festivals. Generous community support
has enabled the Foundation to
fund a variety of educational programs
and enhancements, including:
- The purchase of the Starlab, which is
housed at the Science and
Environmental Center and used by
every student in the district;
- The annual underwriting of the district
choral festival;
- Rewards and recognition to faculty
members for over 200 minigrants that
have been used for innovative classroom
programs;
- The procurement of digital cameras
for each school;
- The underwriting of special fine arts
programs and the purchase of musical
instruments;
- Provision for microscopes and heart
rate monitors at OLHMS.
Future Plans
The Foundation, in cooperation with
representatives from the school district,
selects those projects/programs for
funding that will have the most favorable
impact on the District’s students
and will continue to focus its support on
the provision of funding for broad based
enrichment activities as well as equipment
to support those activities. We will
provide funds to enhance educational
opportunities in areas such as science
and technology, the arts, languages
and other areas in support of the core
curriculum. We will support unique
growth opportunities for all school district
employees. Additionally, the
Foundation will facilitate community
awareness of school programs through
communication and community involvement.
