Hannum Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

What is PBIS?

District #123 has come together in joining a national initiative called Positive Behavioral Interventions and supports (PBIS). PBIS develops a school-wide process where expected behavior is clearly defined and showcased throughout the school. The program supports staff to teach and promote positive, appropriate behavior to all students while using common language throughout the building. Emphasis is directed toward developing and maintaining safe learning environments where teachers can teach and students can learn. This initiative is a proactive, systemic approach to prevent and respond to classroom and school problems.

Within PBIS, we strive to showcase the success we see within our students and all Hannum students. The kids have an opportunity to receive “bear paws” when they are caught following directions and being good students. The children can receive these tickets for simply engaging in the behaviors that are taught throughout the school year. Each week, we hold a school-wide raffle with the bear paws earned throughout that week. Additionally, we have quarterly school wide celebrations for all children who have earned at least one bear paw throughout that quarter.

Hannum Elementary school has developed the components below to drive our school wide expectations, these expectations are called our “Bear Behaviors:”
