The unit was developed as part of the Oak lawn Hometown District 123 Technology Mini Grant Engaged Learning Project.
This lesson is designed for second grade students in the area of language arts and science. The lesson is in accordance to the Illinois State goals and can easily be adapted to other areas of the curriculum such as social studies and math.

This lesson will take approximately two weeks meeting three days a week for 30 minute sessions during instructional time for science. Additional time will also be needed for use of the computer in the computer lab as well as using the computer mini lab in the classroom. Students will work in teams of( 2-3) to research information on web sites.

Entry Level Skills and Knowledge
Basic computer skills are necessary for the research as well as the worksheet completion. Students do not need prior knowledge of frogs. This information will be introduced in this science unit. Students will need prior knowledge on writing an expository paragraph. Paragraph writing will have already have been introduced. Students will be familiar with the writing process which includes the rough draft, editing, and the grading rubric.
The teacher will act as a facilitator. Knowledge of the the internet sites used is necessary in order to assist students. The unit can be taught in a one teacher classroom . Assistance by computer technician for computer lab work will be needed during lab time. It is necessary due to the children's variance in computer knowledge.

This lesson provides students an introduction to the research process.. It allows students to use technology to enhance their understanding of the curriculum. It also allow students the opportunity to connect reading, writing, and technology in a fun and exciting way.
