Title: Colonist Research and Slideshow Presentation
Subject: Social Studies
Grade Level: 5

Curriculum Objective: Students will demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of life in the colonies and share ideas through researching an assigned colonist, and constructing a slideshow presentation.

Activity Description: This is an excellent and interesting way to teach colonization. The students are each assigned a specific colonist, different from any of their classmates. They then are required to research specific information regarding that colonist and fill out the attached graphic organizer. They may use any teacher selected websites. Nettrekker is an excellent one for this project! Once they have completed their research, they create a master slide and from there they follow the attached slideshow directions. When the students finish with their slides, they are to give a powerpoint presentation about their colonist. This project allows the students to not only create slides and construct text boxes with information, but it allows them to import pictures into their slide shows that coincide with what each slide discusses and create a bibliography of resources gathered.

Resources: Colonist graphic organizer (page 1, page 2) and bibiliography sheet, slideshow instructions, rubric for slideshow presentation.

End Product: When the students complete their slideshow they are required to give a presentation about their specific colonist. This helps all of the students to better understand each colonist and is a fun and interesting way to teach the concept.
