Title: Tangram Activity

Objectives:
Students will practice constructing and copying figures with tangrams. Their visiual perseption will be challenged as well as their understanding of tangrams and tangram logic.

Resources and Materials:
Grandfather Tang’s Story by Ann Tompert

Activities:
Students will go to the website: primarygames.com/math/tangram/index.htm
and engage themselves in constructing the figures given with the 4 piece tangrams. Students can work individually or in pairs.

Later in a whole group setting, the teacher will read the story Grandfather Tang’s Story, written by Ann Tompert. Using the overhead projector, the teacher will model the constuction of each animal being made with the seven piece tangram set as the story is read aloud. Students will work in pairs to create the animals. As they do this, students will predict what animal the animals will be turned into as the story events unfold
