Title: Landforms Technology Project
Subject: Social Studies
Grade Level: 2
Objectives:
1. We will remember what we’ve learned about landforms and share ideas through a picture book.
2. We will apply our knowledge of how to use computers to using a new program, iPhoto, and share ideas through a Landform picture book.
Resources and Materials:
iPhoto storybook; digital cameras; Laptop mini lab
Activities:
1. Read and discuss Unit 2, Lesson 2 (p.p.52-57) in People Together, the 2nd grade Social Studies book.
2. Separate the students into cooperative groups. Assign each student in the group 1-2 landforms.
3. Give the students a sheet of blank paper for each landform they are doing. The students should draw the landform using the whole sheet of paper on one side. On the other side they will write the definition of the landform in their own words so that they know what they are going to type when they get to the computer.
4. Instruct or remind the students about the use of the digital camera. Each student should take a picture of his/her landform picture(s).
5. The teacher will then import the pictures from the digital camera into the computer the students will be using. They will need to be put into an album in iPhoto. They should also be in the order that you want the pictures to go in the book.
6. Then, the students will be able to use the storybook option in iPhoto to put their pictures into the storybook.
7. Students will then be able to type what the definition they wrote for each landform underneath the picture they’ve drawn.
8. When everyone is finished they should edit for mistakes.
9. Print and enjoy!
