Title: Find Out About Your President
Subject:
Social Studies
Grade Level: 3rd Grade

Overview: Students will learn more about a president they’ve chosen and give a report on him.

Purpose: To help students learn more about the past and current leaders of our country.

Resources and Materials: Fact sheet for students to fill out (depending on what information you want your students to include in their report); various books about the presidents

Internet Address: http://www.whitehouse.gov/kids/presidents/

Activities:
1. Decide how you will let the students choose their president.  One way is to put the numbers 1-43 on slips of paper and put them in a bag.  Each student pulls a number and that number corresponds to a president (i.e. #1=George Washington).
2. Hand out the fact sheet and explain what the students will be doing.
3.  Have students log on to the website and click on their president’s name.
4. The student should read the page to find the answers to the questions on the fact sheet.
5. The students will have to find 3 interesting facts about the presidentduring his term in office (i.e. what was happening at the time...wars,etc.)
6. The students will create a poster containing all of the information they have collected about the president and present it to the class.

Evaluation: The teacher will score the poster and and oral presentation using a rubric.
