Title: Letter Rip
Subject: Spelling/Phonics
Grade Level: 2-6
Overview: This is a fun, timed game where the players try to make words out of jumbled letters. It is similar to the game Boggle.
Purpose: The students create words by clicking at least 3 adjacent letters found in a random jumbled group of letters.
Internet Address: http://www.primarygames.com/langarts/letterRip/index.htm
Activities:
Students race against the clock to create words out of a group of jumbled letters.
The words can be created out of adjacent letters, whereas each letter must be
touching the letter in front of it and behind it, but the words do not necessarily
need to be formed in a straight line.
Younger students can work in partners, helping each other to find new words.
Evaluation: The game is scored, and the end result can be used
to assess how well the student can visualize words from a jumble. Also, the teacher
can watch the student play a few times to assess the students knowledge of word
skills. Are they looking for a vowel to build a word around? Do they only build
easy 3 letter words, or are they looking at a higher level for the longer words?
