See hotlist.
Activities:
Students will view variety of websites via overhead projector. A hotlist of websites is attached. Viewing websites on the hot list will take place over several days. After students have viewed sites on hot list, collectively students will create anchor charts of the information learned. Anchor charts will be used in the computer lab for students to use while creating their webs.
In the computer lab:
1. Students will access Kidspiration from the hard drive, open a new writing document.
2. Students will then type their name and title for their web on the top line. Explain that this will be the main topic of their web, in order to have students type subtopics they will need to click the paper with the plus sign at the top in the yellow tool bar. After the subtopic box pops up, have the students click on it so that it gets a blue dotted line around it, then click the blue arrow facing right in they yellow tool bar, this creates each new idea as a subtopic to the first box (the main idea).
3. After students type all of their ideas (provided allotted time), students can then click the blue bubbles button to go to pictures. This will move all of your student’s information into a web format.
4. Have students click on their main idea circle in the center of their web, you will see four red boxes in the corners around the circle. Now have student change their main idea circle to a picture of Australia found by clicking the orange down arrow on the blue tool bar on the left side and scrolling down to the Geography category and selecting World. Then students can click and drag their idea bubbles out further so that they are easier to read.
5. Print and enjoy! (See Sample.)
