Title: Immigrant Biography Project
Subject: Social Studies
Grade Level: 4

Curriculum Objective: Students will choose an immigrant, research their immigrant using the internet and answering questions about their immigrant. Students will then do a slide show of their immigrant.

Activity: After immigrants are chosen, students use the three web sites already chosen and bookmarked. They read about their immigrant answering specific questions as they read.

Resources: The following web sites should be bookmarked:
http://www.worldbookonline.com
http://www.ask.com
http://www.biography.com

End Product: Students use the research information to write a one page report about their immigrant. They also locate and print a picture of the immigrant. Students also create either an artifact box or a triorama based on the information they find. Students dress as their immigrant and present their information to the class.

Students work independently on their project.

Pre-teaching: This project is preceded by study of immigrants and how and why they came to the United States. Students have read about other immigrants, studied the Northeast including Ellis Island, and listened to a guest speaker that came through Ellis Island.
