Activities: Teacher will read the book Frida to students and discuss the life and times of Frida Kahlo.  Teacher will then discuss the idea of creating a self-portrait just like Frida Kahlo did.  Students will be able to look at their face in a mirror and draw their nose, eyes, ear, mouth and ears with oil crayons.  Students will create a background that is unique to them.

After they have created their self-portrait, the students will travel to Destination Art to investigate clues about Frida’s life, her art, etc.

Evaluation: Students will have their artwork neatly completed, fully colored, and they will be able to define a self-portrait and the artist Frida Kahlo.
