Title: I-Spy
Subject: Art
Grade Level: 2nd
Overview: Students will create their own I-Spy page.
Purpose: Students will investigate how to make their own I-Spy page by arranging various toys and materials on a paper placemat. Students will apply their knowledge by playing the I-Spy cd-rom at the computer station.
Resources and Materials: I Spy Fantasy, a Book of Riddles,by Walter Wick & Jean Marzollo, Scholastic’s I-Spy Fantasy cd-rom, various toys and trinkets at each table, a digital camera
Activities: The teacher will show the students an I-Spy book. The teacher will then show the students the I-Spy cd-rom on the computer. The teacher will demonstrate one game in front of the class with the help of the students. The teacher will invite students to come to the computer to also demonstrate the game in front of their peers.
Next, students will be encouraged to arrange the various toys and trinkets in the middle of a paper placemat. The teacher will go around the room and take a digital picture of the students’ arrangements.
When each student is finished with their arrangement, they may go to a computer station and play the I-Spy cd-rom, or they may go to the learning center to read an I-Spy book.
The following week, the teacher will have the I-Spy photos printed and matted on a piece of tag board, the students will then have to think of an I-Spy riddle to coincide with their arrangement.
