Service Hour Opportunities:  •Library help from 3:30-4:30 p.m. [contact Mrs. Spedale]   •Power Hour tutoring from 3:30-4:30 p.m. [immediate need for 6th grade on Tues or Thurs ... and .. 8th grade on Thurs] [contact Mrs. Merenda or Mrs. Rayson]  •Assist for two hours on Market Day [contact Mrs. Merenda or Mrs. Rayson] •NJHS Band Members can tutor a 5th grade beginning band student  [contact Mr. Kehl]

Prospective Member Information:                                                                                                                                                                                             NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY: This prestigious organization is available to Seventh and Eighth Grade Students who meet and maintain high academic standards and exhibit qualifying behaviors in the areas of citizenship, leadership, service, and character. The minimum academic criteria include both of the following:

         * A  G.P.A. of 3.75 or better for the first two trimesters

                   ...and...

         * Grades of “A” or “B” in all subjects.


• Students who meet BOTH OF THE ABOVE CITED CRITERIA will be eligible to petition for membership. This will be determined after Trimester 2 grades have been posted in the latter part of March.

• Qualified students who petition for membership must also fulfill the minimum 5 hours Service Requirement (part of the petition form.) [NOTE: The 2-hour OLHMS Community Service Learning Project is separate and apart from the NJHS service hours requirement ... no double-dipping, please!]

• Once the petition is submitted, petitioners will be selected for membership by a vote of the faculty on the basis of the aforementioned criteria.

• Induction Ceremony will be Thursday, April 18th, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.

Inducted Member Information:

Students who are inducted into NJHS must then maintain all of the criteria for the remainder of their academic career in School District 123.

• In addition to the expectations of meeting attendance, exemplary behavior, and service to school/community, each member must maintain the following academic standards each trimester:


         * G.P.A. of 3.60 or better

             ...and...

         * Grades of “A” or “B” in all subjects

             ...and...

          * Minimum of 25 hours of service by March 28th, 2013.  [NOTE: The 2-hour OLHMS Community Service Learning Project is separate and apart from the NJHS service hours requirement ... no double-dipping, please!]

• NJHS sponsors will monitor members for compliance with all of the related responsibilities.


• Members who violate NJHS requirements and/or any school-related expectations may be suspended or dismissed from NJHS.
