THINGS TO REMEMBER AT OLHMS FOR MARCH
1. Spend some time reading the March edition of "Mustang News", which is attached below. This newsletter for parents will be issued each month highlighting topics and events important to our learning community at OLHMS. Contact the school office if there are any topics you would like to see included in future editions. After reading it, please spread the word to other parents who may not know about the newsletter.
2. Please review these helpful tips before dropping-off and picking-up students at Doors 4 and 5:
• Anticipate congestion; Given the inclement weather, more students are being dropped off and picked up. For this reason, drivers should anticipate a line of cars and drop students off around 8:20. Students will continue to be marked tardy if they arrive after 8:30, so please plan accordingly.
• Pull all the way into the circle drive; Drivers should pull all the way into the circular drive to accommodate as many cars as possible. This simple step will reduce the time it takes to drop off and pick up students.
• Demonstrate appropriate driving etiquette; Please remember that safety is our first priority. Avoid driving too fast, pulling away with a car door open, stopping your vehicle in the middle of Oak Center Drive, or swerving around other vehicles. These actions could realistically result in tragedy.
3. Discussing internet safety is time well spent! At our Snowflake Event in January, our students learned about the many potential hazards associated with social networking sites as well as instant messaging and texting. Often times students feel more comfortable expressing themselves online or via a cell phone, however it is important for young adults to take ownership of their words. Writing hurtful things about others can not only be hurtful, but could also have potential ramifications.
To learn more about this important topic, consider attending the upcoming parent workshop on social networking sights, texting, and more. Specific details can be found in this month's parent newsletter (link below). Also, spend a moment reviewing the internet safety tips on the links below.
4. All STAR and Power Hour classes will be canceled during ISAT testing (Tuesday, 3/2 through Monday, 3/8). Classes will resume on Tuesday, 3/9.
5. 2nd Trimester ends Friday, March 5th. Report cards will go home with students on Friday, March 12th.
