Parent-Teacher Association

The mission of the PTA is threefold:
*To support and speak on behalf of youth in the schools;
*To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and
*To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

Sward School is proud to have many dedicated parent volunteers to carry out this mission. Without them we would not be able to offer many of the quality programs that are so beneficial to our families.
Parents can join the PTA and sign up for committees in the beginning of the school year. Listed below are the committees that the PTA sponsors. Several of the committees offer opportunities for parents to assist from their home allowing even the busiest parents to take part in this organization. While volunteers for each of these committees are sought at the beginning of the school year, additional volunteers may be requested just prior to the event happening. Notices will be sent home if this is necessary.

Committees
Book Fair, Market Day, Campbell Labels, VIP Bingo, Membership, Picture Lady, Programs, Cultural Arts, Publicity, Health and Safety, Read-A-Loud, Family Movie Night, Legislation, Social Committee, Literacy, Box Tops, and Newsletter.

The PTA holds monthly meetings which are open to all PTA members. General finances and expenditures, programs and events, and local and national PTA news are discussed. Notice of the meetings will be sent home via the Take Home Tuesday newsletter; meetings are also listed in the district calendar.

PTA FUND RAISERS
The PTA generally holds one fund raiser per year. Proceeds from the fund raiser benefit the school and students in a variety of ways. Over the years, our school’s PTA has been very generous with its resources, both financial and volunteers in supporting our teachers and school. The students in our school are the benefactors of the combined efforts of teachers and volunteers working together. Parents are encouraged to participate in the PTA at any level possible, (for example, become a PTA member, attend the monthly meetings, volunteer to help with an event, volunteer to assist on a committee, volunteer to lead a committee, bring forth new ideas which will help the students and our school community).
