The children know that singing,
playing instruments
and dancing to music is FUN!

Having a BLAST
in music class
is for EVERYONE!

In the general music classroom your child will learn key concepts to develop their musical ability. Concepts such as dynamic awareness, tempo changes, vocal development, note reading, and playing instruments, will be taught throughout the year and consistently reinforced throughout their time here at Covington.

Hello Covington Families,
October was a BLAST in the music classroom! Please ask your child to sing some of these Autumn/Halloween songs for you:

Kindergarten and 1st: Pumpkin Stew and How to Make a Jack - o - Lantern

2nd: Clouds of Gray

3rd, 4th: Pumpkin Jack! Have these students talk to you about their Opera experience.

5th: Jack-o-lanterns, Cats and Witches, Halloweens a Fright. But I don't care I only wish to Trick or Treat Tonight! The 5th graders played Orff Instruments to this song and sounded fantastic.

We spent November singing fun songs about Thanksgiving. We also had lessons about Native American Indian Music. The students played hand drums and studies the different beats from different Indian Tribes.

In December, we practiced vocal strategies to get ready for our BIG PERFORMANCE. It was all worth the practice, because the students had a GREAT HOLIDAY PROGRAM!

January and February have been packed with fun music. We have talked about Elvis, Dixieland music, Chinese/pentatonic music. I have been using the calendar to explore the many different celebrations taking place during this time of year and incorporating their music in my classroom. We sung songs about the presidents for Presidents' Day and read awesome articles called Luigi's Baton about the families of instruments. The fourth graders are busy learning the RECORDER this time of year and loving every minute of it.
