Learning and Growing All Summer Long

The past few weeks at Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 have been filled with energy as our Launch and Discovery and Extended School Year programs helped students learn, grow, and achieve throughout the summer.

Dedicated staff members brought enthusiasm each day, guiding students through hands-on learning experiences that sparked curiosity and built lasting friendships. Students explored a wide variety of subjects, from painting colorful axolotls in Animal Art and crafting traditional piñatas in Spanish Camp to programming devices for miniature boat races in Coding and solving math mysteries tailored for different grade levels.

To celebrate the last day, students in Experimentation Nation and Creative Cooking joined forces to study scientific reactions by making homemade ice cream using ice and salt. From academics and athletics to the arts and sciences, each classroom was home to new discoveries and students growing as learners.

Alongside these enrichment classes, additional programs provided support to prepare students for the fall. The English Learner program focused on language acquisition and interactive activities to help students build confidence for the upcoming school year. At Hometown Elementary School, the Extended School Year program served special education students, helping them strengthen fundamental academic, social, and life skills to ensure continuous growth.

“As we wrap up another incredible summer, our hearts are full of gratitude. To our amazing students—thank you for showing up each day ready to learn, laugh, explore, and grow. Your curiosity, resilience, and smiles made every day brighter. To our dedicated staff—thank you for pouring your time, energy, creativity, and heart into making this program so special. Your patience, encouragement, and commitment created a place where students felt safe, supported, and excited to be here. And to our wonderful families—thank you for your trust, partnership, and support. We couldn't do this without you.

"The D123 Summer Program is about so much more than academics. It's about building confidence, creating friendships, celebrating growth, and making memories that last long after the final bell. Thank you for making this summer one to remember. We hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break, and we can't wait to see all the amazing things our students accomplish in the year ahead!" — Sarah McIntyre, Summer Program Principal
