Every Bear, every day. Going far, the Grizz Way!

Every Bear, every day. Going far, the Grizz Way!

PBIS bootcamps taking place at Hannum School.

We have a new affirmation at Hannum this school year.  Directly following Ms. Doornbos' daily morning announcements, students say two things, "We are Bears who believe in being respectful, responsible and safe!"  The NEW saying this year goes with the theme, "You're Gonna Go Far."  Students now will say, "Every Bear, every day. Going far, the Grizz Way!"  Saying these words out loud set the expectations for the day.  They are reminders of Hannum's Bear Behaviors that are grounded in PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports).  The sayings are positive verbal reminders of expected school-wide behavior.  Ms. Doornbos and Ms. Franko have taught and or reviewed how to behave at Hannum School.  We teach explicitly how to walk in the hall, how to act in the bathroom, lunchroom, and at recess.  Students know what the words actually mean: "respectful, responsible, and safe."  Those same words are used by staff throughout the school all day long.  Behavior is not left to chance.  For our first through fifth grade students, these behaviors are a review.  With our new kindergartners, the behaviors have to be taught for the first time.  Some students have had preschool, but others have not.  Taking the time now to lay the foundation for positive behavior, helps set the stage for the best learning environment for ALL students at Hannum School.
