Turtle Tricks for Big Feelings

Turtle Tricks for Big Feelings

Preschoolers are beginning to be introduced to a very special friend, Tucker Turtle! Tucker is teaching us how to handle big feelings in a safe and calm way.

When preschoolers feel mad, sad, or frustrated, Tucker shows them what to do:

  • Stop when those big feelings bubble up.
  • Tuck inside your shell to take a break.
  • Take three slow, deep breaths to feel calm again.
  • Think of a solution and come back ready to try again.

Through stories, role-play, and practice, our students are learning that it’s okay to have big feelings, and that they can choose safe strategies to calm down. Tucker Turtle reminds us that everyone needs a little time to pause, breathe, and reset.

As one student said after practicing with Tucker,

“I tucked in my shell and then I was ready to play again!”

With Tucker Turtle by our side, our preschoolers are building lifelong tools for self-control, problem solving, and friendship.

Here is a story that you can read at home to practice Tucker’s steps together!
