An Overview of D123's Special Education Programming

November 13, 6:30-7:30 PM | Virtual - Link to Come

What we’ll cover:
Join Director of Special Education, Leigh Coradetti to learn how Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 approaches special education from early identification through supports in K-8. We will provide a clear overview of how the district finds, evaluates, and supports children with special education needs and related services—through “Child Find/Screening” processes to identify and evaluate children who may need help. We will also provide a summary of the continuum of services available across the district, including special education instructional programs, resource programs, and related services from preschool through middle school. In addition, we will explain how an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed, what it includes, and how the district partners with families to plan services and measure progress over time. Tips and strategies will also be shared to support you in engaging, asking questions, and partnering with your child’s team.

Why attend:
This session is designed to help you feel empowered and informed about your child’s special education journey in D123. Whether you already have an IEP in place, are exploring possibilities, or simply want to understand the supports available, we welcome your participation.

D123 WIN Model: Wrap-Around Resources to Use at Home

November 19, 6:30-7:30 PM | Sward School, 9830 Brandt Avenue, Oak Lawn

Join us for an interactive presentation: “D123 WIN Model: Wrap-Around Resources to Use at Home.”

During this session, we will:

  • Explain what the WIN model is and how it supports student learning
  • Show what WIN time looks like for students in the classroom
  • Provide families with practical resources to use at home

Parents are encouraged to bring their children with their Chromebooks. We will have hands-on WIN centers where students can rotate through activities and experience WIN just as they do at school.

There will be plenty of activities for you to participate in with your child, along with resources to take home. These tools will help you guide your child on what they can do at home to elevate their learning.

2025-26 Parent University Schedule

In our Parent University sessions, District 123 staff and administration will highlight various aspects of our curriculum as well as opportunities to discuss our district’s School Safety protocols, Early Learning programming, Special Education programming, the importance of recreational learning, and the District’s Portrait of a Graduate. We firmly believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential to a child’s success. Your involvement, support, and communication are invaluable to us.
