Welcome to Kindergarten!

District 123 follows Illinois School Code, which specifies that to enter kindergarten, children must be five years of age by September 1 of their kindergarten year and six years of age by September 1 of their first-grade year. Occasionally, exceptions to both of these policies may be made for children whose potential and skills are in the very superior range. A half-day kindergarten program is also available for the family seeking this option.

District 123 has specific criteria and procedures for considering parent requests for early entrance. For more information regarding early entrance to Kindergarten, please click here.

2023-2024 Registration information

Applications for newly enrolled students will be processed starting January 17, 2023. Register early so you don’t miss out on our Parent University Workshops and Open House!

Students who are currently enrolled in D123 preschool programs are automatically enrolled into Kindergarten through district-wide Returning Student Registration that is done in the spring. There is no need for you to do anything at this time.

Be sure not to miss the Kindergargen Open House on May 24, 2023 at 6:00 pm at your child's school!

Kindergarten Screenings

All incoming Kindergarten students will be screened prior to the start of school.  If you have not received your screening appointment by mid-August, please call your school’s main office.
