Bilingual Parent Advisory Council
The Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) consists of parents who have a child in one of Oak Lawn-Hometown 123’s Shelter, Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) or Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI) programs. Schools with State Mandated Transitional Bilingual programs are required to establish a Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC).
What is a BPAC?
- Represents the interests of EL students in TBE program(s), their parents/guardians, and community members.
- Ensures the district recognizes these community voices and acts to meet their needs.
- Advises and focuses on helping bilingual parents and community members better understand bilingual programming.
- Advocates for the academic needs of EL students.
What Does BPAC Do?
- Focuses on helping bilingual parents and community members better understand how bilingual programming works.
- Encourages involvement in the school district.
- They advocate for all Language Learners.
Mission
The mission of the Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee is for parents, staff, and the district to work together in order to meet the needs of all multilingual students and their families.
Goals
- Promote parent participation in the District
- Establish a collaborative voice between our bilingual families and District 123
- Develop the capacity of our parents to support their children with their academic work
- Provide educational workshops for families to increase student achievement of our Bilingual Students
