Little Lions rolled up their sleeves for a paws-itively engaging speech and occupational therapy activity centered around washing pets and learning through play! Using shaving cream and spray bottles, students strengthened fine motor skills while squeezing, spraying, scrubbing, and wiping, all while having tons of sensory fun.
Throughout the activity, students practiced requesting supplies, labeling pets and body parts, and using descriptive language to talk about what they noticed. Key opposite concepts like dirty/clean and wet/dry were woven naturally into play, encouraging meaningful communication and hands-on exploration.

The learning continued during a whole-class language group as students gathered to read Dog’s Colorful Day. Together, they worked on identifying and describing opposite concepts, retelling events, and practicing sequencing as they followed the dog’s messy-to-clean journey. Students eagerly shared observations, predicted what would happen next, and connected the story to their own pet-washing experience.
From building hand strength and coordination to expanding vocabulary and expressive language, this playful week was full of purpose. Students proved that when learning is interactive, messy, and fun, meaningful growth happens every step of the way!
