The Early Learning Center was buzzing with excitement as students and staff came together to celebrate the Week of the Young Child during the week of April 13th through 17th! This year was even more special as the National Association for the Education of Young Children marks its 100th year of supporting high-quality early childhood education.
Each day of the week brought a new opportunity for hands-on learning, creativity, and connection:
Music Monday kicked things off with energy and joy as classrooms filled with dancing feet and laughter. Students explored music and movement through dance parties, instruments, and games like freeze dance. Outside, children enjoyed “musical flowers” in the Learning Garden, which added a playful twist and pleasant sounds to their musical experiences.

Tasty Tuesday was a delicious adventure! Students created simple recipes and participated in fun taste tests. Some classrooms dove right into their insect study by enjoying “worms in dirt” and crafting Bug Sandwiches inspired by the book by Brady Smith. What a perfect blend of literacy and exploration.

Work Together Wednesday focused on teamwork and collaboration. Students worked side by side to build structures, solve problems, dig in sand and engage in partner games, strengthening both social skills and friendships.

Artsy Thursday allowed creativity to shine as students contributed to a collaborative school-wide art project and explored a variety of materials within their classrooms, expressing themselves in unique and meaningful ways.

Family Friday wrapped up the week with heart. Students celebrated the people who mean the most to them by reading stories about families and creating special drawings of their own. Family connections are a valued part of everyday life at the ELC, with family photos always proudly displayed in classrooms, which helps children feel a sense of belonging, comfort, and connection throughout their day.

Celebrating the Week of the Young Child during NAEYC’s 100th year is a powerful reminder of the importance of early learning, play, and community. At the ELC, every moment of this joyful week highlighted how meaningful experiences, filled with creativity, collaboration, and connection, help lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning.
