ELC classrooms were filled with smiles (and lots of books!) as we celebrated Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros, a nationally recognized celebration of children, families, and the joy of reading. Observed each year on April 30, Día highlights the importance of literacy while honoring diverse cultures, languages, and traditions.
At the ELC, this meaningful celebration turned into a memorable experience for every student. Thanks to funds raised during the Bookies Book Fair and our PFA Grant, each student received a brand-new book to take home, sparking excitement, curiosity, and a love for reading.

A special partnership made the day even more impactful. Students from OLHMS thoughtfully prepared gift bags for each ELC child, carefully writing each student’s name on the bags. When it came time to open them, classrooms were filled with smiles, anticipation, and pure joy as students ripped open their bags and discovered their new books inside.
The excitement carried into homes and families. One parent shared,
“My child was so excited to send a photo to her cousins of her with her new book. This day is something I always celebrated as a child and it’s so nice to see our next generation being able to do the same. Another ELC mom shared with me that she was super excited for her daughter to receive a book from the school.” — Second year ELC Mom

Another family described a sweet moment at home:
“As soon as her dad got home, Valeria ran to him in her yellow Belle dress to show him her new sunflower book.” — Kelly, 1st year ELC mom
Día, which began as a literacy initiative connecting Children’s Day with the love of books, encourages communities to nurture young readers and celebrate learning in inclusive, culturally meaningful ways. The ELC’s celebration reflected this mission beautifully, bringing together students, and the school community through the shared experience of reading.
From the excitement of opening a gift to the pride of owning a new book, the day served as a powerful reminder: every child deserves access to stories, and every story has the power to inspire.
