Story Stones in First Grade

Story Stones in First Grade

First graders in Mrs. Sharko's class recently learned how to use story stones to help answer the question "Who are the main characters in the story?". Story stones are a collection of stones with pictures on them that are used as storytelling prompts. In this activity students learned how to match the character Story Stone to the illustration. This lesson went exceptionally well because the children were able to retell the story, Tomas and the Library Lady, using complete sentences! Story stones help encourage students to make connections between pieces of information and also engage the students in a collobartive hands- on way!
