Embroidery and Crochet Club!

Embroidery and Crochet Club!

Embroidery and Crochet club is off to a great start this year. This is the 2nd year Covington has offered a club of this nature. After her first year, Ms. Rodriguez did a little revamping and came up with some new crafts and lessons. This year she has ten 5th grade students for the first half of the school year then another 10 students for the second half. Our first 2 weeks we worked on doing a satin stitch over a heart we hot glued directly onto fabric. The past 2 weeks Ms. Rodriguez taught the technique called Chicken Scratch. The students use different types of straight stitching on gingham fabric to create a pattern. Next up we will be doing some embroidery using sequins and beads. Then finally introduction into crochet.

Ms. Rodriguez is very happy with the progress the students are making. A few of the students seem to immediately get the technique then they can help other students. It is great to see them all working together and learning a new craft that they can potentially be doing the rest of their lives. Ms. Rodriguez always tells them how she keeps learning and improving different needlework skills.

If any of our Covington families have any leftover embroidery hoops, needles, embroidery floss, crochet hooks or yarn. We will happily take donations to keep up our supply items we use throughout the year.
