This past Saturday, downtown Chicago came alive with the sound of cheers, laughter, and pounding footsteps as hundreds of girls came together to complete the Girls on the Run 5K. Among those girls was our Covington Girls on The Run group run by Ms. Sitterly and Ms. Dow. The event, held in beautiful Grant Park, marked the end of a 10-week program that teaches young girls not just how to run, but how to believe in themselves.
Wearing bright smiles girls our Covington girls ran side by side, joined by their coaches, families, and every single one crossed with pride in her heart and a medal around her neck.
Girls on the Run is more than just a running program. It’s a movement that helps girls in 3rd to 5th grade discover their inner strength, build friendships, and learn how to be kind to themselves and others. Through fun, interactive lessons and team-building activities, the girls gain tools that go far beyond the track, like how to stand up for what they believe in and how to turn a tough day into a chance to grow.
The 5K was a celebration of all they’ve learned and how far they’ve come, both on and off the course.
