This week, Covington Elementary joined schools across District 123 to celebrate Unity Week, a time dedicated to promoting kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Students across all grade levels took part in meaningful activities that encouraged them to think about what it truly means to be a buddy, not a bully. Our students partnered with their buddy classrooms to complete a variety of kindness-centered lessons and projects.
Classrooms watched short videos, created bookmarks, discussed how a bully might feel, and completed a “Let Me Introduce Myself” activity. The highlight for many was the “Hands” activity, where students traced their hands and filled each finger with ways to show kindness and inclusion. The week ended with everyone coming together for a Unity Dance, a joyful celebration of friendship and school pride!
On Spirit Day, Covington’s hallways were filled with orange, sports teams and Cougar gear as students and staff proudly showed their unity. The sea of spirit wear reminded everyone that we are stronger when we stand together for kindness and respect.
At Covington, we believe that every student deserves to feel seen, safe, and supported and Unity Week was a perfect reminder of that.
