Honoring Our Heroes: Covington’s Veterans Day Assembly

Covington Elementary came together in a heartfelt celebration to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. Families of our Covington students who are veterans were invited to attend this year’s Veterans Day assembly, creating a powerful and emotional connection between our students and the meaning of service and sacrifice.

The program opened with a stunning acapella performance of The Star-Spangled Banner by Mrs. Walsh, whose voice filled the gym with pride and reverence. Students shared both original and selected poems, offering sincere words of gratitude and reflection to thank our veterans for their courage and dedication.

A beautiful slideshow presentation highlighted Covington families’ veterans: parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and siblings, whose photos and stories played as the entire school watched in appreciation. The moment was both moving and unifying, as students erupted in applause to honor all who have served.

While Mrs. Kenis was unable to perform “Taps” during the assembly due to a meeting conflict, she shared her beautiful rendition later in the day, ensuring this special tradition continued in honor of our heroes.

Covington is proud to honor our veterans and their families for their service, strength, and sacrifice. We are deeply grateful for their example and for reminding our students what it truly means to serve others.
