After wrapping up their science unit on modeling matter, our 5th grade students had an exciting and memorable opportunity to welcome a special guest, Mrs. Favero's friend a food scientist Dr. Nina! As students concluded their learning about how matter can change, combine, and be modeled in different ways, Dr. Nina helped bring these concepts to life by connecting them to her real-world career.
During her visit, Dr. Nina shared how she uses science every day in her work to study, test, and improve the foods we eat. She talked about how understanding matter is important when creating new food products, testing ingredients, and making sure foods are safe and high quality. Students were especially interested in hearing about the experiments she conducts and the problem-solving skills she uses in her job.
The visit sparked excitement, curiosity, and great discussions about how science is used outside of the classroom. Experiences like this help bring classroom learning to life and give students a deeper understanding of how the skills they are learning today can connect to future careers. We are so grateful to Dr. Nina for taking the time to visit our students and inspire the next generation of scientists!
