Hometown Artists Make our World a Bit Brighter

Hometown Artist Proudly Displays Her Artwork.

This little artist is so proud of her finished piece of art.

Our little Hornets are budding artists here at Hometown thanks to the help of our amazing art teacher, Mrs. Natalie Evans. Students attend art classes once a week. Each grade level has different skills that they work on throughout the year. Kindergarten students are creating projects that are improving their fine motor skills such as: cutting, pasting, drawing, tracing, and coloring. Students are creating a “Kitten in a Mitten” focusing on those skills and learning about color, line, shape, and pattern within this project. First grade students are learning about the famous artist, Piet Mondrian and learning about the Primary colors and directional lines. Students are drawing an owl using these learned concepts and following the artist’s artistic style. Our second grade students are learning about the famous artist, Henri Matisse and his famous artwork, “Goldfish.” Students are creating their own versions of Matisse’s, “Goldfish” following teacher led step by step drawing instructions. Our third grade students created 2 paintings using warm and cool colors. Students combined these two paintings and learned the weaving technique and turned both paintings into one woven piece of abstract art! Fourth grade students are learning about the famous artist, Andy Warhol and his “Pop Art” and Printmaking technique. Students are creating their own Pop Art using: Printmaking, Repetition, and Color.

Fifth grade students are learning about the famous “Street Artist,” Keith Haring and his Active Figures. Students are also learning about the famous artist, Piet Modrian and his graphic artwork using the Primary colors and directional lines. Students are creating one piece of artwork using the new found knowledge of both Haring and Mondrian.

The famous artist Pablo Picasso once said, "Every child is an artist." With the help of our amazing Mrs. Evans, we are so happy to have a building full of little artists who color our days bright.
