Heartfelt Heroes

Paraprofessionals work alongside students helping provide support during the school day.

Every year we celebrate Paraprofessional Appreciation Day on April 3.  However, every day we honor these unsung heroes at Hometown Elementary.  Our paraprofessionals play such an important role within our school.  Currently, Hometown Elementary staffs approximately 25 paraprofessionals.  Along with the classroom teacher,  paraprofessionals support teachers and students in so many ways. For instance, a paraprofessional can tutor students or assist the teacher with managing the classroom and organizing instructional materials.  Paraprofessionals also help prep lesson materials and lead small groups. The list of tasks required of a paraprofessional can range from toileting and hygiene, monitoring for safety, providing one-on-one support during lessons, helping a child use an assistive communication device and helping children move around the school building.  These paraprofessionals help create a loving and warm environment for the students.  They are the heart and soul of our special education department.
