Hometown Choir performed during the Spring Concert
Students, staff, and families gathered for a joyful celebration of music at the annual 3rd–5th Grade Spring Concert, hosted by music teacher Mrs. Hemminger. The event featured several upbeat and exciting songs that included a mix of chorus performances, different instruments, a song including the fourth grade recorders, and a special appearance by the 5th grade band students.
The concert opened with the full chorus singing a lively set of songs that highlighted the hard work and enthusiasm students have brought to their music classes this year. Each grade had an opportunity to shine, and the audience was treated to a variety of musical styles and cheerful melodies.
One of the highlights of the evening was the recorder performance, where students demonstrated their growing skills and musical coordination. The simple yet charming tunes delighted the crowd and showed just how much students have learned under Mrs. Hemminger’s guidance. With the help of many different instruments, props such as balloons, flags and cardboard instruments, you never knew what would come next!
The 5th grade band also took the stage for a few special numbers. These budding musicians showcased their progress with a selection of songs that featured clarinets, a trumpet, percussion and more.
Music education improves and develops language skills in children. Music stimulates the brain and helps expose students to a large amount of vocabulary in a short amount of time. Music is also a vehicle for excellent memory skills. Students must recall rhythms, pitches, dynamics, and several other elements all at once. Students can then transfer those memory skills to the academic classroom and use those skills in their schoolwork. Music education also promotes improved coordination, specifically hand-eye coordination.
The Spring Concert was a wonderful display of the power of music education and a celebration of student talent. Congratulations to all performers on a job well done!
