Congrats to our big winners!
Hometown Elementary School recently held its much-anticipated Title 1 Literacy Family Trivia Night, bringing together students, families, and teachers for an evening of fun and learning. The event, which took place in the school gymnasium, featured a series of interactive literacy-based trivia questions aimed at reinforcing the importance of reading and language skills for students of all ages.
The night kicked off with a warm welcome from our literacy teachers Mrs. Onik, Mrs. Sheedy and Mrs. Gill, who emphasized the role of literacy in shaping academic success and lifelong learning. "At Hometown Elementary, we believe in the power of reading to open doors and inspire imagination," said Mrs. Sheedy. "Tonight is all about celebrating that power and creating a fun, interactive way for families to engage with their children's literacy journey.
Families were divided into teams. They chose their own team names and they got to decorate book bags to bring to the library this summer! Then they were able to answer a variety of literacy questions, ranging from questions from Fundations to questions from CKLA. Each round of trivia offered opportunities for participants to demonstrate their knowledge while learning new facts and tips to enhance reading at home.
One of the highlights of the event was a special "Picture" round, where teams were given logos and they had to guess what popular place or item it represented. The excitement in the room was building as participants worked together to recall the answers!
The Title 1 Literacy Family Trivia Night not only focused on academic achievement but also on strengthening the partnership between school and home. Many families took the opportunity to ask questions on Fundations and CKLA.
"We love seeing our families engaged in their children's literacy journey," said Mrs. Onik, one of our Literacy Support Teachers. "Events like this help parents understand how they can support reading at home, and they also remind students that reading can be fun, even outside of the classroom setting."
The event was not just about answering trivia questions—it also included exciting prizes for the winning teams. Every family that attended left with a bag of fun!
The Title 1 Literacy Family Trivia Night was a wonderful success, and it highlighted the strong sense of community at Hometown Elementary. Parents and students alike expressed their excitement about future events that would continue to promote the love of reading.
