We love BOOOOOOOks!!!!! A Night of Reading Fun

Students played reading games led by our staff

On Tuesday, October 21, Hometown Elementary hosted a spooky and fun-filled Family Reading Night, led by our amazing Literature Support Teachers (LSTs) and staff. Families gathered in the evening to celebrate the joy of reading together, and the school was filled with laughter, storytelling, and the fun literacy games.

The event featured a variety of engaging reading stations where families could participate in shared reading activities, literacy games, and even make-and-take projects. Many dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes, adding an extra touch of fun and comfort to the evening.

Our teachers and staff did a fantastic job planning and leading the event, offering helpful tips for parents on how to support reading at home, choose just-right books, and build strong reading habits with their children. Families especially appreciated the chance to hear about the ways reading is being supported in the classroom and how they can reinforce those efforts at home.

One parent shared, “It was such a great night to connect with my child around books. We both left feeling excited to read more together!” Another commented, “I appreciated the practical advice from the LST team. It’s clear the school is really invested in helping kids become confident readers.”

Events like Family Reading Night show how powerful school and family partnerships can be in supporting student success. We are so grateful to our LSTs, staff, and administrators for making the evening a success—and to all the families who joined us to celebrate the magic of reading. What a wonderful reminder that books bring us together!
