Hometown's First Annual CASEgiving

Hometown Elementary School welcomed families for a memorable Fall Family Night, bringing students, parents, and staff together for an evening filled with food, fun, and community connection. The event showcased the strong relationships within the school and highlighted the importance of supporting families of children with special needs.

Families contributed an impressive spread of foods—everything from homemade pies and cupcakes to fried chicken, dips, and elaborate fruit and cheese trays. To make sure students felt included and excited, the school also stocked tables with kid-favorite snacks such as Goldfish, fruit snacks, pretzels, and popcorn.

The evening featured a variety of crafts and activities designed to engage children of all ages. Students enjoyed creating a mosaic pumpkin-pie craft, decorating wooden fall-themed décor, and completing adorable fall animal sticker art. One of the biggest hits of the night was the obstacle course provided by the adaptive PE teacher, who ensured all students could participate in a way that felt fun and accessible.

The inspiration behind the event came from Brittney Burzinski, who wanted to create a space where families could feel connected and supported. “Sometimes having children with special needs can feel isolating,” she shared. “Bringing families together helps remind us that we’re not alone.” The evening reflected that vision perfectly, giving parents and caregivers the chance to meet others who share similar experiences and to build meaningful relationships.

Teachers and paraprofessionals also created a special display that highlighted each child, sharing what they were thankful for about every student. The poster quickly became a favorite spot for families to stop, read, and take pictures, celebrating the individuality and strengths of each child.

Hometown Elementary’s Fall Family Night was more than just a school event—it was a celebration of community, belonging, and the shared commitment to supporting every child. The school looks forward to continuing traditions that bring families together and strengthen the sense of unity that makes Hometown Elementary such a special place.
